Suzhou gardens to host various festival events

Festival events such as a folk customs Spring Festival fair, flower fair and fruit fair will be held in different gardens in Suzhou of Jiangsu province during Spring Festival, according to the Suzhou municipal administrative bureau of gardens.

Visitors can see the traditional festival customs of Gusu district at Huqiu, or Tiger Hill, from January 31 to February 6.

In the Humble Administrator’s Garden, penjing (or potted landscapes), flower art works and flowers will be on display. Performances showing ancient scenes at Spring Festival will be staged during the festival five times a day.

The 16th flower show will open at Liuyuan, or the Lingering Garden, and feature camellias. A plum blossom show at Lion Forest Garden will begin on January 23 and last for one month.

Visitors can see a pingtan performance (story telling and ballad singing in the Suzhou dialect) at the Master-of-Nets Garden from February 1-4. A Kunqu opera performance will take place at Canglang Pavilion on February 2.

At the Suzhou Zoo, various horse-themed shows and events will be staged during the festival, since 2014 is the Year of the Horse.
