Liuhe River, located in Liuhe town of Taicang, is regarded as the mother river of the historic town. Recently, the water authority and related departments have made plans to build an ecological revetment alongside the river.

According to a nearby resident, the river has a long history. The bank areas have collapsed due to the regular drainage and water diversion of the eastern dam. “The restoration project has been listed in the practical projects,” said Lu Mingyi, deputy station chief of the Liuhe water conservation station.

The maintenance project will start soon, aiming to construct a 275-meter-long honeycombed revetment on the eastern bank of the Liuhe River upstream. In line with the project standard, the ecological revetment is suitable for the growth of grass, water plants and reptiles such as frogs and snakes.
