Recently, a notice of solicitation for the 2014 Taicang Venture Philanthropy Programs was published, officially marking the start of new venture philanthropy activities. The city is preparing to invest 3 million yuan ($488,780) from a welfare lottery into philanthropic projects, providing funds for 25 registered social organizations and 80 social organization projects. The projects mainly involve services for the elderly, the young, the disabled and the poor.

The Taicang venture philanthropy activities have been hosted for two successive years. They have collected many projects involving youth services, child education, volunteer service, mental health consultation, marriage and family service, and other aspects.

During the first event in 2012, a total of 13 philanthropic projects were signed with funds totaling 1.35 million yuan. Last year, the budget for venture projects increased to 2.5 million yuan. Roughly 100 projects were expected to get financial support, including 20 programs by registered social organizations and 80 social organization projects of recorded communities. Apart from funds from the welfare lottery, the city will also encourage private capital to engage in the event. The city will also invite many philanthropic individuals, enterprises and charitable groups to support specific programs for sustainable development.
