The 2014 Chengxiang Kite Festival, themed “China Dream, My Dream,” kicked off on April 1 at Jincang Lake in Taicang, attracting more than 500 kite enthusiasts across the city.

The kite festival has been held annually by Chengxiang town since 2009. Kite-making and kite-flying play an important role in fitness and entertainment.

 Chengxiang’s kite-making technique has been listed as a city-level intangible culture heritage. During the festival, the town set up an intangible culture heritage preservation base in Jincang Lake primary school and invited the inheritor of the kite-making technique to transmit the intangible culture heritage.

Chengxiang town has also been holding various recreational and sports activities. This year, the town plans to host 30 themed activities to enrich local life and promote a harmonious Chengxiang.
