Taicang Huangjing Green Agricultural Product Fair

The 2014 Suzhou Huangjing characteristic folk culture and agricultural product exhibition will take place during the fair. Citizens and visitors can experience local folk culture and buy green agricultural products.

The agricultural product exhibition includes 16 pavilions, where people can buy Huangjing rice, Sunjiaqiao strawberry, special seafood, organic chicken and egg, ecological turtle, green vegetables and fruits, and mutton. Some pavilions include scientific achievements made in cooperation with Tongji University and Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Science. Visitors can also enjoy characteristic folk culture through performances or display panels. Inheritors of Yonggui mahogany carving, a Suzhou intangible cultural heritage, will show their skills.

In addition, a wide range of art performances will be held twice at 10:00am and 2:00pm, including folk music, Shanghai Opera, Shaoxing Opera and dance. Famous hosts and hostesses from Suzhou TV will preside over the show and interact with audiences. Winners of the quiz can get a gift.

To popularize socialist core values and promote resource co-construction and sharing, the publicity department of the Taicang municipal committee of the Chinese Communist Party has launched a series of exhibitions about characteristic folk culture, agricultural products and civilization achievements. These activities have been very popular with local people since 2013.

With a history of 1,700 years, Taicang Huangjing town enjoys a high spiritual civilization and commercial prosperity. It was honored as “a village of Chinese folk culture and art” and “a famous town of Jiangnan sizhu” (a traditional string and woodwind instrument). Huangjing is also well-known for its folk music, traditional Chinese opera, dance and bridge.
