An opening ceremony for the 2014 ninth Taicang Reading Festival was held in Taicang library on April 26.

Chen Xuerong, propaganda chief of the city, attended the ceremony. Chen hoped that all groups and members could work together to advocate citywide reading, transmit Taicang culture and build more local interest in reading.

The annual reading festival was created in 2006 to encourage more Taicang citizens to read. At the ceremony, the organizing committee honored some excellent groups and people that have made great achievements in reading, as well as launched the Taicang 100 Volunteers Reading Promotion program.

In addition, a signing ceremony for the fourth Series of Taicang Culture was held during the opening ceremony.
