The first silkworm flower festival was held on May 1 in Zhenze town of Suzhou city, to display the town’s new silkworm culture and tourist attractions.

The festival kicked off at Wencangge square, along with the joyful music of suona (a kind of horn) and waist drum, as well as a colorful parade.

The most important part of the festival was offering sacrifices to the Goddess of Silkworms, who is in charge of the silk harvest.

Zhenze town, as the hometown of silkworms and a long history of breeding silkworms, has formed a distinctive silkworm culture. The first silkworm festival aims to combine silkworm culture and old town tourism to highlight its old town tourism.

The festival will not only boost the silkworm industry, but also promote local tourism. Visitors can appreciate the scenery of mulberry fields, take part in picking mulberry leaves and rearing silkworms, taste local snacks and experience the folk customs.
