Shaoxing Opera part of culture festival in Suzhou

A Shaoxing Opera performance was held at Xietang Old Street, Suzhou, on May 24. The opera was a special performance of the first Xietang Old Street Culture and Art Festival.

Shaoxing Opera is a traditional Chinese opera originating from Shengzhou, Zhejiang province. With soft and elegant tunes, the opera is suitable for telling love stories.

The show was enjoyed by not only opera fans, but also, people who are not familiar with the opera were enchanted by its charm.

Zhao Zhigang, a well-known artist nicknamed “Prince of Shaoxing Opera” performed a selection of arias from Desert Prince and Quiet Wedding Night at the show, captivating the audience with his graceful and passionate singing.

Also, artists from troupes in Shanghai and Zhejiang gave wonderful performances at the show.

Xietang Old Street planned various activities for the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. The 10th Suzhou Teenage Letter Writing Contest was to be held at Xietang Old Street on June 2. Visitors can also enjoy a drawing contest, teen performances and live sculptures.
