Famous Peking Opera singer visits Taicang

Shang Changrong, a famous Peking Opera artist, visited Taicang on June 15 and held a lecture about the origin and charm of Peking Opera at the Taicang Theatre.

Lu Weiqi, deputy secretary of the Taicang municipal Party committee, met Shang before the lecture. Lu introduced Taicang's profound culture, Kunqu opera and development of Taicang's opera culture.

Shang praised Taicang for its great nature and outstanding people. He expressed willingness to give a show in Taicang.

His lecture featured the history of Peking Opera. The opera is a Chinese national treasure with a history of more than 200 years. As the most representative of Chinese traditional culture, the Peking Opera needs innovation to attract young audiences today.

During the lecture, Shang also highlighted the artistic characteristics of Beijing Opera masks and performed a short piece of an opera, winning rousing applause from audiences.
