Rubik's cube devotees gather in Suzhou

Some 120 people got together at Suzhou High School for the WCA Suzhou Open for 2014, on July 12, coming in from 16 provinces and regions in China and the United States, with the youngest being only seven, and the oldest above 50.

The competition is the work of by the World Cube Association that 30 members of the high school’s Rubik’s Cube Student Club started and involved the normal cube solutions, and some more unusual situations, such as doing it one-handed or blindfolded.

In commenting on the event, the high school principal, Zhang Xin, said he knew very little about the Rubik’s cube, but that he liked these events that are good for student growth.

The Rubik’s Cube is a 3D combination puzzle invented by a Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, Erno Rubik,in 1974, and is one of the world’s best-selling toys.
