Taicang Port, located on the south bank of the Yangtze River estuary, is an artery port for river and sea transportation. In 2014, Taicang Port has witnessed a booming economy along with increased ship movement.

In the first half-year, the number of ships entering and leaving the port amounted to 38,682, a year-on-year increase of 24.75 percent, including 2,338 international ships and 36,344 domestic ships, a rise of 13.66 percent and 25.41 percent, respectively. Foreign trade cargo throughput hit 21.96 million tons, up 26 percent.

The port enjoys many preferential policies, which helps reduce the cost of shipping companies and improves transport efficiency, attracting more companies to ship cargo here.

The Taicang maritime safety administration has also focused on maritime security with tougher supervision and improved service to ensure safe freight.
