More than 130 cycling enthusiasts in Taicang, Jiangsu province took part in an ecological cycling activity on Sept 22 to celebrate World Car-Free Day.

They started from the square at Taicang's administrative center, passed along Shanghai Road, Banjing Road, Xianfu Road and Changchun Road, and ended at the viewing platform of Liuhe River and then backtracked. The activity aimed at encouraging more residents to take green transportation to save energy, curb pollution and improve the environment.

The car-free day was initiated in Paris on September 22, 1998, expanded to China in 2006 and has since been adopted by many cities around the country.
