The container throughput of Taicang Port in Jiangsu province has seen fast and steady growth this year, with the Jan-to-Aug period reporting container throughput of 1.89 million TEUs, for a year-on-year growth of 41.2 percent, ranking first in the country.

On July 21, 2014, the port launched a shuttle barge service to facilitate cargo transport to Yangshan Port in Zhejiang province. Liners sail 21 shifts a week, eight hours per shift, to provide high-efficiency, low-cost and safe logistics service. The shuttle service features fixed time, routes, barges and price. In August, the liners sailed 204 barges with 25,000 TEUs.

In addition, the port has focused on improving its transport capacity by adding more shipping lines. During the past eight months, it opened four domestic lines and seven international routes, with a daily line to Japan sailing two ships. The port now has a total of 166 shipping lines.
