Taicang sees first provincial water conservancy scenic area

The Fenghuang Lake scenic spot in Taicang, Jiangsu province, was recently approved as a provincial-level water conservancy scenic area.

The water conservancy scenic spot, located in west Shuangfeng town, covers a total area of 7,965 mu (532.33 hectares), including 24 rivers stretching 26.68 kilometers, five pump stations, 7.6-kilometer dikes and four floodgates. The area has a total drainage capacity of 10.5 cubic meters per second.

With an expected investment of 500 million yuan ($81.43 million), the scenic spot plans to construct a fish breeding area, a fishing center, a catering area and an ecological farm. The fishing center has been completed and designated as a national angling training base by the General Administration of Sport and China Angling Association. More than 60 national fishing contests were held here.

In addition, the city will continue to focus on environmental protection and seek balanced development of environment and economy.
