The city of Suzhou, in Jiangsu province, got its first metro library, recently on a 50-square-meter space, at the Amusement Land station, on Line 1.

The library was the idea of the Suzhou Library and Suzhou Rail Transit employees who were concerned about readers, mostly office workers, living a fast-paced life and not getting the diverse information that they need, hence this mini multimedia library that combines interactive sources and traditional shelves.

The library is open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm every day and has three parts --- a reading area, search area, and multimedia exhibits -- giving visitors access to about 2,000 books, 30 types of newspapers, five computers and some multimedia equipment.

Suzhou has been doing other urban cultural construction work to try to give its people better services, such as self-service outlets of the Suzhou Library.
