Taicang Port, located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, enjoyed rapid development in the first three quarters of this year. The number of ships entering and leaving the port reached 60,125, hitting a record high with a year-on-year increase of 20.11 percent. The figure included 3,560 international ships and 56,565 domestic ships, an increase of 11.88 percent and 20.67 percent, respectively.

The port boasts the largest number of ships along the Yangtze River that have maximum tonnage and deepest draft. It has greatly increased load capacity to help import and export enterprises reduce logistics cost, shorten transit time and improve transport efficiency.

In the future, the port plans to improve ship draft capabilities to 12 meters, which will improve freight volume by 2 million tons and reduce enterprise logistics cost by more than 100 million yuan ($16.3 million).
