Taicang folk art shines at first folk art fair

The first China (Suzhou) Folk Art Fair, held from Nov 21 to 24 in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, attracted more than 3,000 folk artists and featured more than 50,000 pieces of art.

During the fair, seven folk art forms from Taicang's 12 folk artists, including wheat straw pictures, embroideries, lacquer paintings, wood carvings and paintings made from soft drink cans, were a draw for the event.

The golden and elaborate wheat straw pictures amazed many visitors, some of whom even mistook the pictures as gold-and-silk thread embroideries.

Jointly sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC), Jiangsu Literature Federation and Jiangsu Folk Artists Association, the fair received more than 200,000 visitors within four days.
