Jiangsu's Suzhou city will continue its efforts to fight pollution in a bid to clear the air, said Mayor Zhou Naixiang at an ongoing plenary meeting of the National People's Congress in Beijing. The comments were made in a group discussion of Premier Li Keqiang's government work report on Mar 6.

He noted that Li's report "declared war" against pollution and emphasized environmental protection measures were needed to ensure sustainable development.

Zhou said the government work report was down-to-earth and provides a roadmap for economic transformation. He added that Suzhou would follow central government guidelines to carry out reforms and maintain economic growth at a proper speed.

The mayor pledged stricter law enforcement to punish polluters and more government projects to improve people's life.
