Taicang Port transported 482,000 twenty-foot equivalent units of containers in February. The TEUs grew by 127 percent year-on-year, according to statistics released by the port's administrative committee on March 18.

Taicang Port has been integrating its strengths and resources with Shanghai Port. In February, the joint transportation missions conducted by the two ports shipped over 74,000 TEUs of containers, a year-on-year growth of 90 percent.

Taicang Port is also building itself into an environmentally friendly port. On March 1, the Taicang on-water comprehensive service zone was put into operation.

The zone is responsible for dealing with pollutants and responding to emergencies. It is able to handle 30,000 cubic meters of sewage and 500 tons of waste every year.

Local government officials said that Taicang Port plans to reach the year target of handling 7 million TEUs of containers by working with ports in Shanghai.
