Taicang aims high for cultural industry

Jiangsu's Taicang city will strive for high-quality development in the cultural industry with priorities including e-sports and tourism, according to a municipal conference on March 31.

The conference pointed out that Taicang will build a modern cultural industry system, develop the city into a national destination with holiday culture, and make "Taicang e-sports" an influential brand.

According to plans announced on March 31, the city will boost development of the digital cultural industry, which covers e-sports, animation and cartoons, films, music, and internet culture.

Preferential policies with be carried out for investment in the culture industry. Cultural industrial parks with municipal, provincial, and national titles can receive subsidies of 1 million yuan ($152,200), 2 million yuan, and 4 million yuan, respectively.

A set of opinions were also released for Taicang's e-sports. The city has over 70 companies engaged in the industry and is home to seven famous e-sports clubs with over 1,000 professionals.

The opinions suggested that in three to five years, the city will bring in one or two global tournaments, three to five competitive clubs, and one or two e-sports venues that can hold global tournaments.

In order to attract more tourists from Shanghai as well as the Yangtze River Delta area, the city will develop one core, three centers, and six belts to integrate its tourism resources.

The core consists of the Chengxiang town and Loujiang New City. The centers and belts refer to Taicang's most attractive scenic spots such as Tianjing Lake, the old streets in Liuhe Town, and Shaxi Ancient Town.
