Taicang attracts 22 investment projects at Shenzhen fair

Agreements on 22 projects were signed at a promotional fair in Shenzhen on April 20 to bring investment from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to Taicang, Jiangsu province.

These projects will bring 27.96 billion yuan ($4.31 billion) of investment to Taicang, according to Taicang officials at the fair.

The projects signed span a variety of sectors including information technology, smart equipment, the internet of vehicles, e-commerce headquarters, and biological medicine.

Several top officials in Taicang and representatives from over 200 companies in the Greater Bay Area were present at the event.

Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, is situated in the south of the Yangtze River estuary and is adjacent to Shanghai.

Taicang Port ranks ninth in China and 30th in the world in terms of container throughout.

Taicang is also known as the "home to German companies," as the city is now home to more than 370 German companies, over 50 of which are leaders in their industries.

Taicang is now focusing on industries like high-end equipment manufacturing, new materials, headquarters economy, biological medicine, and aerospace.

The city has attracted research institutes and university branches, such as the Taicang campus of Northwestern Polytechnical University, the Taicang campus of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, as well as the Institute of Computing Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Taicang has been recognized as one of the top 10 counties or county-level cities in China in terms of comprehensive strength. It was honored as the top county-level city with the most potential for investment in 2020. Taicang has also been selected as one of the happiest cities in China nine consecutive times.
