The container throughout of the Taicang Port in Taicang, East China's Jiangsu province, had reached 6 million twenty-foot equivalent units by Nov 11, a new high since 2018 when the port handled more than 5 million TEUs of goods.

From January to October, the port handled 5.73 million TEUs of container throughput, up by 31.8 percent year-on-year.

In October, the port's container throughput was 655,000 TEUs of goods, a record high in history.

Local authorities said the achievement reflects Taicang's strong efforts to expand domestic and foreign trade ties.

So far, the port has opened 10 container liner routes, three of which leading to foreign ports including Ho Chi Minh, Vladivostok and Vostochny, and seven of which connecting Chinese cities such as Tianjin and Haikou.

In 2014, Taicang Port signed a cooperation agreement with Shanghai and initiated 41 routes from the port to Shanghai to promote the integration of the ports in the YRD region.

From January to October, Shanghai-Taicang water routes transported more than 910,000 TEUs of goods, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.
