Taicang in Jiangsu province has donated about 650,000 face masks to Zhouzhi county in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province, local media reported on Dec 30.

Xi'an is currently working to tackle a new wave of COVID-19 infections. During the city's fourth round of nucleic acid testing, 122 cases were confirmed, according to the local health commission. The city has a population of 13 million residents.

About 455,000 of the face masks from Taicang will be distributed to hospitals and other medical service centers in Zhouzhi county. The remainder will be placed at the disposal of the local government.

Local authorities said Taicang plays an important role in Jiangsu-Shaanxi cooperation. The city has spent over 38.16 million yuan ($5.99 million) in Shaanxi's poverty alleviation, offered 178 jobs to locals, and helped sell local agriculture products worth 41.03 million yuan.
