The Taicang Port in Taicang, a county-level city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, registered 1.78 million TEUs of containers in the first quarter, up 18.4 percent year-on-year, statistics from the local authorities recently revealed.

About 976,000 TEUs of containers were sent from or delivered to foreign countries over the period. An accumulation of 61.74 million metric tons of goods were handled at the port over the three months, a year-on-year increase of 11.2 percent.

In the first quarter, more than 15,000 ship arrivals were made at the Taicang Port, up 23.8 percent year-on-year.

The port continued to cooperate with Shanghai Port, allowing many Suzhou firms to transfer their cargo to the Shanghai Port in a more convenient way.

Since March, seven more routines transferring cargo between the Taicang and Shanghai ports have been added.

In March, a total of 59,132 TEUs of containers were transported via the on-water express channel linking Taicang and Shanghai ports.
