The Taicang Port in Taicang, a city under the administration of Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province, handled 976,000 TEUs of containers in the first quarter of this year, up 23.5 percent year-on-year, according to the statistics recently released by the Taicang Customs.

Officials attributed the growth to the efforts by Taicang Customs to stabilize international logistics and streamline approval procedures.

The Taicang Port and the Yangshan Port in Shanghai have also made coordinated efforts to transfer cargo. Under an upgraded management model, companies now only need to submit one application before they can import and export their products through the ports.

Canadian Solar Inc, which specializes in photovoltaics, is one of the beneficiaries of the new management model. Xu Wei, the general sales manager of the firm, said the upgraded management model helped the company saved time and costs. About 100,000 yuan ($15,680) in logistics costs has been saved in each month, said Xu.
