The construction of Phase 2 of Skechers China's logistics center in Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, started on Aug 9.

The 264,000-square-meter facility, which costs over 1.65 billion yuan ($244 million) to build, is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The smart facility will have a warehouse capacity of 22 million items and can handle 600,000 orders a day, according to authorities.

Phase 1 of the project was put into operation that same day. The facility has a storage capacity of 11 million items and can handle 60 million orders a year.

Taicang mayor Hu Weijiang said the city has in recent years been making efforts to bolster the development of its logistics and trade industry, and the Skechers logistics center will help inject more vitality into the logistics sector in Taicang.
