The biomedicine industry in Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, saw robust growth in the first four months of this year, with the output value of its biomedicine enterprises above designated size increasing 21.8 percent year-on-year, according to official statistics.

One of the key reasons behind this boom was that the city's biomedicine enterprises have made significant strides in technological innovation. Crown Bioscience Taicang Co, which boasts a 4,600-square-meter animal experimental facility, an 11,000-square-meter modern laboratory, and a translational medicine service platform, generated sales of 400 million yuan ($55.98 million) in 2022.

Taicang's biomedicine enterprises have also made progress in rare diseases, with Cyagen Biomedicine Taicang Co setting up a database for such diseases.

Taicang is currently home to more than 400 biomedicine enterprises, generating an annual operational income of nearly 30 billion yuan.

The other reason for the dramatic increase in the biomedicine industry was the establishment of a series of innovative platforms, with Taicang Biomedical Industrial Park, Taicang Biological Bay and Taicang Sino-German Healthcare Industrial Park playing key roles in cultivating high-tech biomedicine enterprises. The three high-tech incubators boast 43 research institutes and 15,000 biomedicine practitioners

Thirty-five biomedicine projects with a combined investment of 1.15 billion yuan were registered in the city in the January-April period of this year.
