Taicang sees travel boom over double holiday

Taicang, a county-level city in East China's Jiangsu province, welcomed a significant increase in tourism over the just-concluded Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday.

From Sept 29 to Oct 6, the eight-day holiday saw both Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day celebrations.

According to data from local tourism authorities, Taicang's A-level scenic spots, hotels, rural attractions, and cultural venues hosted more than 1 million visitors during the holiday, a year-on-year increase of 99.48 percent.

Popular attractions in the city during the holiday included Shaxi Ancient Town and Liuhe Ancient Town.

Younger tourists still prefer visiting the countryside, as reflected in the 11.82 percent increase in per capita consumption among visitors to the city's rural scenic spots during the eight-day holiday.

The total box office of 11 cinemas in Taicang reached 2.64 million yuan ($364,483.98), surpassing the total box office of 1.96 million yuan during the 2022 National Day holiday.

In addition, a total of 439,400 passengers were transported in the city over the holiday and 10 key offline commercial enterprises including Wanda Plaza achieved sales of 154 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.7 percent compared to 2022, and a growth of 12.4 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
