Taicang ranks among China's top cities in 2023 Development Index

In the recently released 2023 China High-Quality Development Index for Small and Medium-Sized Cities, Taicang showcased its prominence by securing the seventh position nationwide in comprehensive strength, ranking second in science and technology innovation, third in green development, and third in new urbanization. 

It underscores Taicang's consistent commitment to the vision of a modern pastoral city.

Economically, Taicang's industry clusters are flourishing, with Taicang Port achieving an annual container throughput exceeding eight million. The city boasts nearly 500 German-funded enterprises and hosts around 40 Fortune Global 500 companies, contributing to a remarkable regional GDP of 16.54 billion yuan ($2.32 billion) in 2022.

In the realm of innovation, Taicang has established a robust system, featuring 55 science and technology entrepreneurship carriers covering over two million square meters. In 2022, the city recognized 439 high-tech enterprises, surpassing Suzhou’s set target by 25.79 percent, with a total of 1,039 effective high-tech enterprises.

Residents in Taicang enjoy a high quality of life, evident in the city's 11-time recognition as the happiest city in China and seven instances of topping the list of county-level cities. The city achieves this through continuous efforts in urban functional quality, rural revitalization, picturesque landscapes, and diverse welfare services, aiming to create an inclusive and happy city.

Currently, Taicang is strategically positioned as a bridgehead integrating with Shanghai, a hub city with a robust port, a demonstration area for cooperation with Germany, and a harmonious urban-rural locale. The city is committed to achieving breakthroughs and leading modernization with Chinese characteristics, meticulously sketching a new developmental blueprint for Taicang.
