Rugao foreign trade gets off to strong start

Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, enjoyed an increase in its volume of foreign trade during January, according to the city's customs.

The city reported total imports and exports of 2.14 billion yuan ($320.21 million) for the first month of the year, marking a year-on-year increase of 2.6 percent and accounting for 9.1 percent of Nantong's total.

Rugao reported general trade of 1.6 billion yuan, a rise of 5 percent, among which 1.45 billion yuan was from exports.

The city saw increases in the trade of commodities including mechanical and electrical products, textiles, and petrochemicals, with increases of 8.7, 5.9, and 83.7 percent respectively.
