A total of 12 non-State-owned museums in Nantong, East China’s Jiangsu province announced they would open their doors to the public for no admission charge on Aug 6.

The museums are located in Chongchuan, Gangzha and Tongzhou districts, and each will put up a plaque with admission details issued by the city’s culture, broadcasting, television and tourism bureau.

Information including the museum’s name, the logo for Nantong non-State-owned museums,  opening times and a complaint hotline, will be on the plate.

Officials said the initiative was a bid to encourage companies, social organizations and individuals to establish museums and contribute to the cultural and tourism development in the area.

According to the authorities, the local government provided subsidies of 1.52 million yuan ($216,448) to 11 non-State-owned museums in 2017 and 2018.
