Two liftboats, Hua Jing 1 and Hua Jing 2, that were produced by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co, were delivered to Jiangsu Gulf Electrical Technology Co in Haimen district, Nantong on July 21.

The liftboats are 69.6 meters long, 40.4 m wide and can sail at six nautical miles per hour. Each of them cost 400 million yuan ($57.96 million) to build.

The main structure of the Hua Jing 1 consists of a rectangle ship body and four cylindrical pillars, which allow the boat to operate in waters with a maximum depth of 61 m. It also has a living area, which can accommodate 200 people.

"The Hua Jing 1 was built for oilfield services. In accordance with the client's requirement, we spent less than three years transforming it into a platform for the installation of wind power equipment," said Zhou Yongfu, an executive of China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co.

To meet the market demands, the company's project team, technological center and client have worked together to optimize the boat's structure, reducing the weight by 300 tons and increasing its working capacity from three-megawatt wind turbines to 10-mW ones.

According to Zheng Xuezhou, chairman of Jiangsu Gulf Electrical Technology Co, there are no more than 10 such platforms in China, indicating a huge market potential for the Haimen-based shipbuilder.
