A two-day promotion themed on revitalizing the rural economy through livestreaming opened on May 14 in Hai'an – a county-level city in Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province.

The event saw 30 celebrity livestreamers use four platforms represented by JD.com and Douyin – also known as TikTok – at the same time.

The aim was to promote sales of Hai'an's agricultural specialties, such as shrimp sauce and globefish.

The promotion was co-sponsored by the Industrial Culture Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Hai'an municipal government and the organizing committee for rural economy revitalization through livestreaming activities.

A special area was set up on JD.com to plug Hai'an's agricultural products, which will also be sold at the 618 midyear shopping festival and the Double 11 shopping spree, to raise the profile of the city.

Because of its great climate, rainwater, soil and river network, in recent years Hai'an has spared no effort to develop its modern agriculture.

It is known for its rice, poultry and eggs, silkworm breeding and mulberry growing, aquatic products, fruits and vegetables.
