The Jiangsu provincial department of housing and urban-rural development recently announced the seventh list of Jiangsu provincial characteristic countryside villages. A total of 42 villages were granted the title.

Nantong has two villages on the list – Kaisha village in Wujie town, Tongzhou district and Yangzhuang village in Libao town in the county-level city of Hai'an.

Kaisha Island, located in Wujie town in Tongzhou district, Nantong, has among the best environments of any island in the Yangtze River basin. It boasts beautiful scenery and rich natural resources.

In order to completely change the appearance of rural areas and improve villagers' quality of life, Kaisha village is striving to create an environment with lucid flowing waters and beautiful landscapes.

The residential area is comprised of over 450 two-story villas and has become a highlight of the island after two demolitions and relocations.

In recent years, Kaisha village has been aggressively developing its holiday economy, and has attracted several tourism projects, including a table tennis training base, an RV campground, and an equestrian club.
