Dongping village in Dongshe town, Tongzhou district, which is administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province, is renowned for asparagus farming, which has brought a prosperous life to local villagers.

Historically, farming traditional industrial crops had low economic benefits in Dongping village, so most of its young villagers left the village to find higher paying jobs in cities.

In recent years, the village now focuses on key words such as "characteristic, rural, countryside", and has developed distinctive industries. Asparagus is a village treasure. Different kinds of asparagus from all over the world can be seen there.

A 3,565-square-meter glasshouse has been built for the research, development and cultivation of asparagus seeds. Intelligent agricultural technologies such as the automatic control of temperature, humidity and ventilation are utilized in the glasshouse.

As a promotion center for asparagus research and cultivation, the seamless connection between seedling production at the base and technical services in the fields, which provided convenience for surrounding villagers to participate in the development of the asparagus industry, continues to be developed.

At present, Dongping village is developing itself into an "asparagus village" with the asparagus industry serving as the leader in the area, and is supported by facility agriculture, aquaculture and tourism industries.
