The Tianning Temple in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has been closed for repairs until further notice due to a structural collapse in its Jingang Hall.

On March 21, days of rainwater made some parts of Jingang Hall collapse, and during inspections the following day, more potential safety hazards were discovered.

The restoration of Jingang Hall has been included as part of an upcoming renovation project at Tianning Temple.

Tianning Temple, established in 863 and formerly known as Guangxiao Temple, houses two valuable horizontal inscribed boards written by the emperor of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and renowned calligrapher Zhu Zhishan from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Local legend has it that Buddha statues at the temple were created by the famous artist Liu Luan during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
