Hai'an, a county-level city administered by Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, ranked first in the province in wheat yield per mu this year, local media reported recently.

This is the 14th year that Hai'an has taken first place in Jiangsu in wheat yield per mu.

As of 2022, Hai'an is home to 549,600 mu (36,640 hectares) of wheat fields and its wheat yield per mu has reached 416.3 kilograms, 41.1 kg more than Nantong's average and 33.3 kg more than the provincial average.

The high wheat yield is due to Hai'an's efficient measures.

The city has established five regional agricultural centers, each of which includes two to three towns or subdistricts. Agricultural technical experts have been invited to train the farmers and promote agricultural techniques among them.

Hai'an is also focusing on the cultivation of agricultural professionals. It has carried out the identification of new-style professional farmers, who will enjoy the same treatment as urban workers in social insurance.

As of 2021, Hai'an had certified 431 rural residents as new-style professional farmers and provided them with about 1.73 million yuan ($255,538) in social insurance subsidies.

As a pilot city of socialized service systems for agriculture, Hai'an has fostered professional organizations to offer local farmers services involving agricultural machinery, know-how, and technology.
