A field survey of migrant birds in autumn was conducted on Kaisha Island in Tongzhou district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province in October and November, local media reported.

The researchers spotted over 40 species of birds, including six species of Anseriformes, during this survey.

Located in Wujie town, Kaisha Island is favored by migrant birds because of its abundant aquatic plants and excellent ecological environment.

During the field survey, several wild species under provincial protection, including greenshanks, sandpipers, and dunlins, were spotted in the shallows and sandbars of Kaisha Island.

Tongzhou is now looking to conduct a field survey of birds during the overwintering period to determine the distribution, population and living conditions of rare and endangered birds in the district.
