Rural tourism on Kaisha Island in Tongzhou district, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has received a boost thanks to improved transportation infrastructure.

Over the past decade, the Tongzhou district government has invested over 1 billion yuan ($138.14 million) to construct more than 30 kilometers of roads.

In 2016, the island established bus routes connecting it to downtown Nantong and neighboring towns, making it easy for large tourist buses from other locations to visit various scenic spots on the island.

In 2020, Tongzhou district began upgrading rural roads on the island and allocated a special fund for their regular maintenance. The improved transportation infrastructure has played a pivotal role in facilitating the development of the island's tourism industry.

In 2018, the island commenced construction on the Zhouji Menghuan Island project, which opened to the public in March and has since been attracting a daily influx of 28,000 tourists.

Due to the increased number of tourism projects, Kaisha Island received 1.264 million tourists in 2022, generating tourism revenue of 300 million yuan.

In 2013, Kaisha Island Resort was approved to become a provincial resort and is expected to be listed as a national resort in the future.
