Tongzhou district in recent years has prioritized the cultivation of technical talent at its local enterprises.

As of now, Tongzhou boasts 143,200 highly-skilled individuals, including 8,593 technicians and senior technicians.

The district recently launched the 12th edition of the Workers' Vocational Skills Competition, featuring 16 district-level skill competition categories. The initiative aims to nurture various technical experts and train over 2,000 skilled workers in advantageous industries.

Additionally, the Tongzhou Craftsmen College has kicked off the autumn session of its educational enhancement program, in which nearly 300 industrial workers from various Tongzhou enterprises are participating.

"These students, through two years of systematic learning and assessments, can obtain an associate or bachelor's degree. They will then become gold-collar workers with both education and skills," explained Hu Minhua, a teacher at the college.

In a bid to incentivize skill enhancement, high-tech enterprise Nantong Jianghai capacitor Co Ltd in Tongzhou has formalized agreements outlining certain treatment and promotions based on skill improvement.

Xu Yonghua, vice-president of the company said that since implementing this policy, the company has witnessed rapid growth in the development of technical talent. The return on talent investment has increased by 30 percent year-on-year, resulting in cost savings exceeding 10 million yuan ($1.38 million) for the company, according to Xu.
