In recent years, Hai'an in Nantong has made significant strides in modernizing its grain reserve management, continuously enhancing the levels of safe and scientific grain storage.

At the beginning of June, warehouses owned by Hai'an Grain Reserves Co Ltd were put into operation backed by 135 million yuan ($18.59 million) in investment and boasting 53,200 metric tons in storage capacity.

According to Cao Jie, the company's general manager, the new facility is equipped with an intelligent management system that provides real-time data on warehouse temperature, humidity, ventilation, and inventory levels. This system allows operators to remotely control IoT devices, significantly improving efficiency while also enhancing grain safety.

"The entire grain depot is equipped with a monitoring system, enabling early warning and intervention," said Xue Zhihui, deputy chief of the company's warehousing division.

"We have installed ventilation grilles and a circulation system to control the temperature of each warehouse. Additionally, some warehouses have adopted new technology that introduces nitrogen into the grain piles, creating a low-oxygen environment that inhibits the grain's respiration. This method effectively maintains the freshness of the stored grain, suppresses mold and pests, and reduces the use of chemical agents," added Xue.

Grain storage and reserves are crucial not only for farmers' interests but also for national food security. "In the future, we will continue to closely follow cutting-edge technologies in ensuring food security, staying committed to enhancing innovation in grain storage technology," said Cao.
