The unveiling ceremony of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Nantong Advanced Technology Research Institute took place at the Jianghai Zhihui Park in the Nantong National High-tech Industrial development Zone (NHIZ) on July 2.

The establishment of the institute is the result of discussions on industrial development and technological innovation between SJTU, Tongzhou district, and NHIZ in June last year.

The research institute, leveraging SJTU's expertise, will focus on areas such as new materials, intelligent equipment, green marine engineering, and general aviation. It will engage in technological cooperation, the commercialization of research results, high-tech enterprise incubation, and the cultivation of innovative and entrepreneurial talent, providing intellectual and innovative support for the economic and social development of Nantong.

During the ceremony, Xie Lifeng, the executive vice-president of SJTU, stated that the institute will align with the industrial development characteristics of Nantong, acting as a bridge between academia and industry. It will concentrate on key areas related to major strategic needs and cutting-edge science and technology, establishing research and development platforms, testing and certification centers, and international cooperation hubs, Xie said.

So far, SJTU and Nantong have collaborated on over 200 projects. The establishment of the research institute marks a crucial step forward in deepening cooperation between the two parties and supporting the high-quality development of Nantong.
