This Spring Festival, Pingyuanchi village in Chengbei sub-district, Rugao, once again became a tourism sensation, drawing visitors with its immersive rural experiences.
As Rugao's only certified flight takeoff and landing site, the village's aviation base — located on the northwest side of the tourist area — became a major attraction during the holiday. Tourists flocked to experience the thrill of soaring through the sky while enjoying breathtaking countryside views.
In recent years, the village has introduced a series of youthful, interactive attractions, including a horse-riding club, a go-kart park, and a water park. These additions have fueled the village's ongoing rural tourism boom.
Beyond scenic beauty, Pingyuanchi village has successfully integrated agriculture, culture, and tourism, creating a sustainable rural vitalization model. The village has built a thriving industry by leveraging lotus flowers and roots as key agricultural assets. In 2024, it recorded village revenue of 3.65 million yuan ($499,531.48), welcomed 240,000 visitors, and helped boost local incomes by over 4 million yuan.
Pingyuanchi village plans to expand its tourism offerings, further develop the low-altitude economy, and introduce a hot spring project. "I am confident that shortly, Pingyuanchi village will embrace a new chapter of rural vitalization with a hot spring + homestay + wellness model," said the village's Party secretary.
