Haimen expands cultural landscape with 3 New Public Cultural Spaces

Updated: 2025-03-20

Three venues in Haimen recently made the list of New Public Cultural Spaces in Jiangsu province, more than any other region in Nantong.

These spaces are the ‌Zhang Jian Youth Education Center‌, ‌Yudong Theater‌, and ‌Tongdong Revolutionary Memorial Hall‌, bringing Haimen’s total number of provincial-level cultural hubs of this kind to ‌11‌.

The ‌Zhang Jian Youth Education Center is located in Changle town, covering an area of 9,747 square meters. The facility chronicles the legacy of Zhang Jian, a renowned industrialist and educator in Nantong, through 327 historical artifacts and multimedia installations.

The ‌Yudong Theater sits at the heart of Yudong Ancient Town. This cultural anchor hosts annual Peking Opera performances and intangible cultural heritage showcases, attracting over 200,000 visitors yearly. By integrating opera and tourism, it makes traditional arts more appealing to younger generations, revitalizing the town’s historic charm.

The ‌Tongdong Revolutionary Memorial Hall‌ is a red education base combining historical preservation with interactive learning in Zhengyu town. Through historical artifacts, immersive displays, and digital technologies, it vividly recounts the revolutionary struggles of local communities, hosting over 100 annual events for patriotic education.
