The Chongchuan Economic Development Zone in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has since August been upgrading barrier-free facilities for roads and passages in its urban areas.

The zone has so far completed the installation of barrier-free facilities for 13 roads that are densely populated, including those around parks, shopping malls, residential areas and schools.

The upgrading mainly involves the installation of ramps, tactile pavings and anti-parking stones on roads. Twenty-eight tactile pavings, 33 ramps and 35 parking stones have been equipped on the 13 roads.

The barrier-free facilities will make it easier for elderly people and people with disabilities to get around, said a local official.
