Holiday sales climb in Nantong city's Chongchuan district

During the recent Spring Festival holiday the revenue of 34 key businesses increased to 540 million yuan ($84.96 million), up 13.1 percent on the same period last year, according to statistics released by the commerce bureau at the Chongchuan district of Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province.

A total of 2.63 million people visited the 34 benchmark data businesses, a year-on-year increase of 10.2 percent. During the seven-day holiday – which ran from Jan 31 to Feb 6 – several major shopping malls in the district generated revenue of 310 million yuan, up 13.7 percent.

The accommodation and catering sectors were lively during the break. Statistics showed that seven statistical benchmark enterprises in the sector generated revenue of over 1.7 million yuan in accommodation and more than 5.3 million yuan in catering, up 20.2 percent and 18.2 percent, respectively.

Many tourist attractions in Chongchuan are said to have broken records for the number of tourists the handled. In particular, people from surrounding areas and cities – such as Shanghai, Suzhou, Yangzhou and Taizhou – are said to have chosen to visit Chongchuan.
