The go-ahead for a fuel cell engine project was signed by Shanghai Fuel Cell Vehicle Powertrain Co Ltd and the Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone on Oct 20.

That's according to officials in the zone, which is located in the county level city of Rugao, administered by Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province.

The two sides will jointly develop a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle demonstration facility in the zone. Officials said the project will further improve the industrial chain for hydrogen energy in Nantong and promote its development as a fuel cell vehicle demonstration and pilot city.

Founded in 2001, Shanghai Fuel Cell Vehicle Powertrain Co Ltd is the first high-tech enterprise engaged in fuel cell vehicle power systems research and development in China.
