Ouchi in Pingyuanchi village and Huayuanqiao in Huayuanqiao community – both located in the Chengbei sub-district in Rugao, a county level city administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province – recently made it into the list of the fifth group of provincial-level idyllic villages, according to local media reports.

Ouchi – with its characteristic agricultural products, flowers and bonsais and aquatic products as industrial support – has been keen on developing a rural tourism brand in recent years.

The lotus ponds in the hamlet attract hordes of visitors every summer, making tourism a key livelihood for the locals.

Huayuanqiao in Huayuanqiao community

Huayuanqiao community has more than 66 hectares of barley and corn under cultivation, as well as 8 hectares of plastic greenhouses for growing flowers.

The community is also focusing on environment improvement, aiming to achieve both ecological and economic development.
