To mark the first anniversary of the launch of China's Civil Code, the district-level court in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area, or NETDA – in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province – recently carried out a series of activities to publicize the comprehensive civil law.

Through its interpretation of the Civil Code, live broadcasts of court hearings and legal consultations and other services provided by the court, the residents at the NETDA have gotten a thorough understanding of the laws that are closely related to people's everyday lives.

On May 28, the NETDA court held a hearing of the case concerning "an octogenarian claimed the right of residence after the only property was transferred".

A CCTV program broadcast the case live – along with more than 10 other media and platforms – and some 3.7 million netizens watched the livesteaming.

It was seen as being of great importance to the implementation of the Civil Code – which includes protecting the rights of senior citizens, according to officials.
