The Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA) in East China's Jiangsu province has achieved significant progress in improving people's wellbeing over the past 10 years, having completed 123 projects related to people's wellbeing during this period.

NETDA's greening efforts in urban areas have also paid dividends. In 2021, the area had built five parks that are equipped with amenities for fitness and children's play areas.

Part of efforts to improve people's wellbeing include the upgrading of household facilities for its elderly. The area had in 2021 invested nearly 160,000 yuan ($22,174) to improve home facilities for 53 households. Actions taken include the installation of handrails, gas leakage alarms and slide-proof rugs.

The area has in recent years also been exploring new modes to improve its elderly care services. For example, authorities have engaged social organizations to operate daily care centers and provide home-based care services.

NETDA is currently home to four "elderly homes" where 85 elderly people now enjoy care services.

Authorities have also launched a campaign to provide subsidies to residents who have to pay more than 3,000 yuan in medical expenses besides the fees covered by social and commercial medical insurances.
